Don of the Dead by Casey Daniels

cozy mysteries 023On book: Beautiful, smart, and chic, Pepper Martin never had to work a day in her life-until her surgeon daddy was convicted of fraud, her wealthy fiance took a powder, and the family fortune ran bone dry.  Suddenly desperate, the inexperienced ex-rich girl was forced to take the only job she could get: as a tour guide in a cemetery.  But a grave situation took a turn for the worse when a head-on collision with a headstone left her with an unwanted ability to communicate with the disgruntled deceased…and now Pepper has a whacked Mafia don demanding that she hunt down his killers—and threatening to haunt her until she does.

My  thoughts: Who knew working as a  tour guide in a cemetery would be so exciting! To be able to see the dead…WOW! I was immediately drawn into this book.  Pepper Martin is so sarcastic at times…I like it! I like how the ghost and the characters had interacted in each other lives in the past. A mob boss asking a person to help figure out who killed him…there are a lot of suspects so figuring it out takes a while to connect who is who and who did what 30 years ago.  The reason for the mob boss wanting to find out who killed him so he could cross over to the other side blew me away.  The ending of the book was amazing and I never would have guessed who the killer was or why. I can not wait to read the next one in the series to see what is in store for Pepper next.

Happy Reading!
